God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him.

The International Monetary Fund has been kind enough to define, for those who are curious, what exactly is money? According to the IMF, money is what allows humans to buy and sell from each other, which in turn means that money is the means by which the world functions. Without money, we would be reduced to a bartering economy, where an auto mechanic may starve if they cannot find a farmer who happens to have a shitty vehicle. Interestingly, towards the end of their article, the IMF does admit, "the value of money essentially depends on people believing in it."

It's a simple scene in They Live with a simple message. As the man at the newspaper stand holds the bills in his hands, Nada puts on his sunglasses to see the truth: THIS IS YOUR GOD.
